Our Mission

Wreckio Ensemble Theater Company produces original and innovative works on social issues through their developing movement technique. Wreckio integrates the body, mind, and voice in storytelling to stimulate thought, creating a symbiotic relationship between audience and ensemble.

Our History

We (Randi Berry, Dechelle Damien, Michelle Diaz and Karly Maurer) met while training together at New World School of the Arts in Miami. It was from working together that we knew we had to create our own company and produce original theater in New York City. Wreckio Ensemble has been incorporated and a 501(c)3 since 2000.

Coming up with a name that embodied the vision of what we strive to be as artists, a theater culture, and just plain sounded good, bounced around in circled discussions until our immortal friend, David Recchio, inspired us to use his name. He was everything in life that we strive to be in art: edgy, risky, and a well of creativity that draws inspiration from a never-ending exuberance for life. His influence permeates how we create our pieces and run our organization.

We share equal responsibilities as Co-Artistic Directors and administrators. Four foundational beliefs drive our organization:

  1. Ample time must be allotted towards the artistic development/rehearsal process of a piece.
  2. Administrative and creative decisions are made by means
    of consensus.

  3. Core members are encouraged to explore roles as a Director, Designer, Actor, Writer, etc. in regards to production depending on their interest in a piece.
  4. We have got to have fun!
